6th grade Q1
Creating problems involving multiplication and subtraction of decimals and whole numbers is an excellent way to improve your math skills. Follow these steps to make one yourself!
Step 1: Choose your numbers
Select three numbers. One integer and one decimal number for multiplication, and another decimal number for subtraction. These will form the calculations in your problem:
Example calculation:
(3 × 2.4) - 1.2
Step 2: Create a scenario
Think of a situation where multiplication and subtraction makes sense, such as calculating the length of materials or the distance traveled.
For example:
Imagine you’re measuring the total length of several pieces of wood and cutting off a smaller portion.
Step 3: Write the problem
Combine your numbers and the example into a clear question.
Example problem:
You have 3 wooden planks, each 2.4 meters long. If you cut off a total of 1.2 meters, how much wood is left?
Step 4: Solve it yourself
Solve your problem first to make sure the solution is correct before sharing it. Show all the steps clearly so you’re ready to explain.
