A mixed number is a combination of a whole number and a proper fraction.

Like here where $6\frac{4}{5}$ means 6 whole blueberry pies and $\frac{4}{5}$ of another blueberry pie.

Example: Let’s solve this task: $6\frac{4}{5}+2\frac{3}{5}$

This is what it will look like when you add $2\frac{3}{5}$ pies to the $6\frac{4}{5}$ you already have. You end up with 9 whole pies and $\frac{2}{5}$ if you move one of the slices to make up a full tray. 

Now let's see how it's done with the numbers!

Step 1: Add the whole numbers

6 + 2 = 8 

Step 2: Add the fractions

Now, add the fractions. Since both fractions have the same denominator (5), you just add the numerators:

$\frac{4}{5}+\frac{3}{5}=\frac{7}{5}$

Since $\frac{7}{5}$ is an improper fraction (the numerator is bigger than the denominator), you need to change it to a mixed number:

$\frac{7}{5}=1\frac{2}{5}$

Step 3: Put it all together

Now, combine the whole numbers and the fraction:

$8+1+\frac{2}{5}=9\frac{2}{5}$

You’re done!

$6\frac{4}{5}+2\frac{3}{5}=9\frac{2}{5}$

This means you have 9 whole blueberry pies and $\frac{2}{5}$ of another pie.
